Julie E. Croner, a senior health care executive and hospital administrator with experience in academic medical centers and with medical groups, began her assignment as vice president, strategic planning and business development at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles on April 3, 2006.
She is responsible for strategic planning, master planning, as well as business development.
Ms. Croner had been executive director, strategic planning at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles since August 2005, and she had been administrative director of the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at the hospital since February 1997.
Ms. Croner also had been responsible for the business start-up of the USC-CHLA Institute for Pediatric Clinical Research, which was established at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in April 2004 with an anonymous gift of $15 million to conduct clinical research, with an initial emphasis on developing new treatments and strategies to combat childhood leukemia. It combines resources from both Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
Prior to her appointment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, Ms. Croner was associated with UCLA Healthcare and CDP Services, Inc., from September 1988 to January 1997.
While at UCLA, Ms. Croner was a senior consultant (January 1995 to January 1997), working with the chairman of the UCLA Department of Neurology and Chairman of CDP Services, Inc., to determine the feasibility of a diseases management company for neurology and other chronic diseases; a senior consultant (September 1995 to January 1996), working with the chairman of CDP Services, Inc., to develop a strategy for providing radiation oncology services to Kaiser members in the Southern California region; a planning consultant at Scripps/USCD Cancer Institute Planning Council, on loan from UCLA (January 1994 to April 1996), preparing a joint venture analysis in oncology services for the USCD and ScrippsHealth; and an internal planning consultant in the UCLA Department of Neurology (September 1988 to January 1997), responsible for strategic planning, program development and marketing.
Ms. Croner was executive director of the Center for Health Information, Education and Research (CHIER) at California Medical Center (August 1986 to August 1988).
She also has been associated with The Brighton Consulting Group (July 1985-August 1986) and the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital (September 1984-June 1985).
Ms. Croner is a member of Health Care Executives of Southern California and the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.
She is a board member of the UCLA Health Services management Alumni Association and a preceptor in both the UCLA Internship and Mentor Program and The Associates Program-Capital Group.
Ms. Croner received a bachelor’s degree in health education and behavioral science magna cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (1983), where she was Phi Beta Kappa and the UCLA Chancellor’s Marshall and a Gold Shield Distinguished Scholar. She received a master’s degree in public health from UCLA in 1986. |
