Julian H. Cohen is Of Counsel to Ladas & Parry. Mr. Cohen received his B.S.C.E. from the College of the City of New York and his L.L.B. from New York University. Mr. Cohen is admitted to practice before the New York State Bar and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Cohen was a partner in the firm of Roberts Spiecens and Cohen at the time that firm was merged into Ladas & Parry. Mr. Cohen has many years of experience in prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications. His practice has been in the areas of filing and prosecuting mechanical and electrical inventions. Mr. Cohen also advises clients on issues relating to patent infringement and patent validity.
Mr. Cathcart also advises clients on trademark, copyright, unfair competition, right to publicity, libel and First Amendment issues, and has successfully represented Scientific American against a libel suit by "computer hackers", and has resolved disputes with the Recording Industry Association of America and various performing rights societies.
Mr. Cathcart is experienced in Entertainment Law, and has drafted and negotiated numerous recording agreements, production agreements, cable and TV agreements, publishing agreements, distribution agreements, management agreements, employment agreements and various trademark and copyright related licenses. Mr. Cathcart has represented several gold and platinum selling recording artists, musical directors, managers, producers, actors and comedians.
When not practicing law, Mr. Cathcart is a regular contributing author to World Copyright Law Report and has frequently lectured on the topics of trademark, copyright and entertainment law. Mr. Cathcart is a former Vice-President of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and member of the Executive Board of Directors of Practicing Attorneys for Law Students ("P.A.L.S.").
Mr. Cathcart received his B.A. in Philosophy and Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from Hofstra University, where he served on the Moot Court Board and was an articles editor for the Copyright and Entertainment Law Digest. Mr. Cathcart is admitted to practice before the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey, the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. |
