Judy M. Stephenson is executive vice president for business development and commercial lending for North State Bank. She joined North State in November of 1999 when it was proposed as a new financial services institution in North Carolina. North State opened its doors to customers in June with Judy's help. She has more than thirty-seven years of banking experience in North Carolina, having started her career with People's Bank and Trust, and subsequently served at Central Carolina Bank, Southern National Bank and Triangle Bank. At Triangle Bank, she was a senior vice president and commercial lender until November 1999.
Judy is a member of the board of directors for the Garner Rotary Club and serves on the membership committee for the Garner Chamber of Commerce. In prior years, she was a founder of the North Carolina Heart Association and served as a board member for ten years. She was chairman and served on the board of directors for the Garner Chamber of Commerce for fourteen years, and was an officer for the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce for six years.
In addition to these civic activities, Judy was appointed by Governor James B. Hunt to serve on the North Carolina State Personnel Commission for four years, the North Carolina Building Authority for six years, and the North Carolina Student Loan Program for two years.
A native of Henderson, NC, Judy is a graduate of Wilson Technical College, the North Carolina School of Banking at Chapel Hill management program, the National School of Commercial Lending at the University of Oklahoma, and attended North Carolina State University.
