Juan Esteban Laval Z. has been Chief Lawyer of the Central Bank of Chile since January 2004.
He graduated in legal and social sciences and law (1992) from Diego Portales University and as master in public policies from Georgetown University (1995) specializing in economics, statistics and management.
He worked for the law firm Carey and Company Limited from September 2000 to 2003 and before that he was a lawyer of the Central Bank from 1996 to August 2000 when he took part in updating the Central Bank’s Compendium of Foreign Exchange Regulations and the Compendium of Financial Regulations, advising on various legal matters and representing the Bank at international negotiations on investment.
Mr. Laval was consultant in the International Coordination Division of the Presidential General Secretariat (December 1995-August 1996) and he was consultant at the Interamerican Develoment Bank (IDB), United States (July-October 1995).
He was previously head of cabinet of the Minister for Housing and Urbanization (April 1992-1993) carrying out legal, administrative and coordination work regarding draft laws. He was also legal assistant to the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission where, among other work, he took part in the coordination and final wording of the Rettig Report.
Mr. Laval has also worked as professor in economics and environmental economic analysis at the Law Faculty of the Diego Portales University. |
