Dr. Joshua Lederberg has been a Professor emeritus at Rockefeller University since 1990, and continues to conduct laboratory research on bacterial and human genetics, and to advise government and industry on global health policy, biological warfare, and the threat of bioterrorism. Prior to this he was President of Rockefeller University for twelve years. Dr. Lederberg received his Ph.D. from Yale University, was professor of genetics and founder of the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Wisconsin, and founder and chairman of the Department of Genetics, Stanford University School of Medicine. In 1958 he received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for studies on the genetic structure and functioning in microorganisms. He has been member of various panels of the President's Science Advisory, President Kennedy's Panel on Mental Retardation, chairman of the President Carter's Cancer Panel and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. |
