Joseph Miller graduated magna cum laude from theUniversity of Scranton in 1991 with a B.A. in History. He obtained his law degree in 1994 from Pace University School of Law where he was the Managing Editor of the International Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board, and a member of the Advanced Trial Advocacy Team.
He is admitted to practice law before the State Courts of New York and Connecticut, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. He became associated with Cullen and Dykman LLP in 1995. He became a Member of the Firm in 2003.
Mr. Miller’s practice focuses on the defense of premises liability cases, self-storage facility claims, products liability actions, construction site accidents, automobile accidents, cases involving fires and explosions, and complex litigation cases. He is an accomplished appellate attorney with experience in all phases of appellate practice. He is the Tort and Insurance Department’s principal appellate partner. In addition, he has written numerous insurance coverage opinions and litigated first-party actions and insurance coverage disputes. Mr. Miller oversees the Firm’s uninsured/underinsured motorist, workers’ compensation, Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA) claims defense and no-fault practice. He also oversees the firm’s representation of various self-storage facilities and moving companies.
Since his arrival at Cullen and Dykman LLP, Mr. Miller has tried and arbitrated numerous cases involving both individual and corporate defendants. He has also authored and successfully argued numerous appeals. In 1998, Mr. Miller completed the course, "Trial Advocacy Skills" given by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. In 2000, Mr. Miller coached the Touro Law School Advanced Trial Advocacy Competition Team.
Mr. Miller is an active member in a variety of community activities, as well as a member of the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Trial Lawyers’ Association, and the New York Self Storage Association. He is also a Small Claims Arbitrator.
Mr. Miller frequently writes and lectures to clients about issues concerning tort and insurance law as well as self-storage facility and moving company liability. Mr. Miller has also authored an article entitled, Expending Extraterritorial Abduction Beyond Its Limits: United States v. Alvarz - Machain 6 Pace Int’l L. Rev. 221 (1994)
Mr. Miller has been acknowledged as a leader in his profession. He is named in the Global Directory of Who’s Who 2005-2006 Edition; America ’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals 2005-2006 Edition; and Strathmore’s Who’s Who 2005-2006 Edition. Mr. Miller is also actively involved with charitable organizations, such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. |
