Joseph S. Konowiecki is a member of the Office of the Chairman of PacifiCare Health Systems, one of the nation's largest consumer health organizations, and has oversight of the company's legal and regulatory affairs, government relations, human resources, public relations, corporate communications and community relations functions. He also oversees the PacifiCare Foundation, the company's philanthropic entity. In addition, Konowiecki champions the company's diversity initiative and is the executive sponsor of PacifiCare's championship auto racing program.
Konowiecki has held the position of general counsel at PacifiCare since 1988 and has been an executive officer of the company since January 2001.
In February 2003, Konowiecki appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States in PacifiCare Health Systems, Inc. v. Book, et. al., where he won a unanimous decision.
In October 2003 he was appointed to the RAND Health Board of Advisors, a nonprofit research organization providing objective analysis and effective solutions that address the challenges facing the public and private sectors around the world. Konowiecki is a founding partner of the law firm K&R Law Partners where his areas of practice included health care, regulatory, mergers and acquisitions, corporate, partnership, securities, general business and real estate.
In the health care sector, Konowiecki has represented nonprofit and proprietary hospitals and preferred provider organizations, full-service and specialty health maintenance organizations and all forms of medical groups. He has led some of the largest health care public offerings and mergers in the country.
Konowiecki has chaired, participated in and published articles for the Practicing Law Institute and for other health care and business conferences. He was also a founding editor for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.
Konowiecki is admitted to practice law in California and Washington, D.C. He graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law in 1978 and magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. |
