Joseph E. Gortych joined MagiQ in March 2003, and has overall responsibility for legal matters in the company, with special emphasis on developing and maintaining the company’s growing intellectual property (IP) portfolio. Mr. Gortych has seven years of law firm experience, including managing his own successful private practice. He has also served as Chief IP Counsel at ipCapital Group, an IP consulting firm, where he assisted companies in developing and managing their intellectual property, and formulating business-directed IP strategies. He is a registered patent attorney, and specializes in intellectual property matters as they relate to optics and photonics technologies. He has authored numerous articles on intellectual property matters and is a regular invited speaker at Optical Society of America’s (OSA) Conference for Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO). He also teaches a short course through the Society for Photo-Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) entitled Intellectual Property Issues in High-Tech Business. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Optics and Photonics News, the news magazine of OSA, and is a past Contributing Editor. He is also OSA’s representative to the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame. Mr. Gortych has a B.S. Degree in Physics from Rutgers University, an M.S. in Optics from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics, and a J.D. from Vermont Law School. His technical experience includes working at IBM Corporation as an optical engineer in the areas of photolithography, optical system design and semiconductor manufacturing. He is an inventor on four U.S. Patents and has authored a dozen scientific and technical papers. |
