Joseph Genova has been a partner in the Litigation Department of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP since 1986, and oversees all public service activities.
Mr. Genova has experience in general commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including contract, securities fraud, unfair competition and reorganization issues. He has extensive experience with shareholder disputes in closely held companies, with public utility acquisitions, and with federal qui tam (whistleblower) litigation. He is a certified arbitrator and mediator, appointed by the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts.
He is a 1974 graduate of Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa), and a 1977 graduate of Yale University Law School. Mr. Genova's professional honors include the American Bar Association's 1992 Pro Bono Publico Award and 1996 William Reece Smith, Jr. Special Services to Pro Bono Award, and being elected a Fellow of the American and New York Bar Foundations. Mr. Genova has also received numerous awards and other recognition, at the state and local level, for his public interest work.
The Chief Judge of the State of New York appointed Mr. Genova to serve on the Pro Bono Review Committee (1990-1994), and the Legal Services Project (1997-2001). He also serves on the boards of directors of several public interest organizations dealing with the provision of legal services to the poor.
