Joseph Berman has extensive experience in civil litigation. His practice focuses on the defense of lawyers and other professionals in malpractice and disciplinary proceedings, as well as the defense of insurance companies in coverage and statutory actions. Joe also defends companies in employment litigation. He also handles corporate and real estate litigation. In addition to an active trial practice, he has briefed and argued numerous appeals in state and federal courts.Prior to joining Looney & Grossman, Joe was a founding partner of Berman & Dowell, a six-lawyer commercial litigation boutique. Prior to his own firm, Joe was an associate at the Boston firm of Posternak, Blankstein & Lund and at Coghill & Goodspeed, a Denver, Colorado firm.Joe began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Richard P. Matsch, the former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.Joe is active in several public interest organizations. He is a member of the Regional Board and the Executive Committee of the Anti-Defamation League, and he was elected as an associate National Commissioner of the ADL in 2006. He is a member of the board of Land’s Sake Farm, a community, organic farm in his home town of Weston, Massachusetts. Joe also serves on the board of Community Work Services, a Boston-based organization dedicated to training individuals for the workplace. He has been active in numerous political campaigns and serves as an Assistant Counsel to the Massachusetts Democratic Party.Joe was born in New York, attended Dartmouth College (A.B. cum laude 1986) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D. cum laude 1990). |
