Principal Investigator of the Behavior-Biochemistry Laboratory of the Obesity Research Center of the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, and a Staff Research Associate of the New York Obesity Research Center of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center. Dr. Vasselli researches the role of fat tissue and the regulation of body weight in rodent models, including the role of behavioral, genetic and nutritional factors. Dr. Vasselli received a M.A. in Experimental Psychology from Columbia, and a Ph.D. from the same institution in Biopsychology. He was an National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow in Nutrition and Endocrinology at the Institute of Human Nutrition at Columbia, and an National Institutes of Mental Health Postdoctoral Fellow at Brooklyn College, studying adipose tissue physiology and hypothalamic control of feeding respectively. He has served as Senior Staff Scientist at the Miles Institute for Preclinical Pharmacology, and later as the Principal Staff Scientist at the Institute for Metabolic Disorders of Miles, Inc. in West Haven, CT. Vasselli is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the American Physiological Society, the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the New York Academy of Sciences, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, Society of Sigma Xi, and the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior, where he is currently President-Elect. He reviews for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the American Journal of Physiology, Appetite, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Obesity Research, Physiology and Behavior, and the Journal of Neuroscience. |
