Dr. Valenza received his medical degree from the State University of New York and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School. He became board certified in this area in 1997.

Joining the Kessler staff in 1996, Dr. Valenza worked as both the Director of Pain Management and Outreach Services at the Chester facility and as Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Kessler Care Center at Cedar Grove, a sub-acute/nursing facility. He also served as Director of the Electromyography (EMG) Lab at West Hudson Hospital (Kearny, NJ) and as a Consultant at Trinitas Hospital (Elizabeth, NJ). In 1998, he was appointed Director of Pain Management and Clinical Chief of the Kessler Welkind facility (Chester, NJ).

Dr. Valenza has a special interest in martial arts therapy for the physically challenged. He holds a 4th degree black belt with the World Martial Arts Association and he instructs Tae Kwon Do (Korean Karate) to both able-bodied and physically challenged individuals.

He has both published studies and delivered presentations on the use of martial arts therapy for the physically challenged. He is widely sought after for his expertise in the field of pain management and has appeared on numerous television programs to discuss this subject.

Dr. Valenza, a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Pain Society, is also on the faculty of UMDNJ-NJ Medical School.
