Mr. Wills specializes in design, development, and analysis of occupant safety protection systems. He is experienced in the development and FMVSS rulemaking processes for passive restraint systems and the factors considered by manufacturers and NHTSA in developing performance requirements. He is also proficient in the testing needed to evaluate compliance with those requirements. Mr. Wills has expertise in the area of failure and safety analysis of automotive systems and components. He is proficient in designing and performing crash and sled tests for specific projects. His work in this area has been used to validate accident reconstructions, understand occupant kinematics, and assess restraint system performance. Mr. Wills is also experienced in the design and development of vehicle body structure, steering columns, shift controls, accelerator controls, and transmission components.
Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Wills spent 42 years as a manager and engineer at the Ford Motor Company. He worked primarily on passenger car, light truck, and SUV products and components. Mr. Wills held design, staff, and design analysis positions. He most recently held the position of Manager of Vehicle Dynamics in the Design Analysis Office for the company. |
