Joseph E. O’Leary is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Boston office. He is a member of the Firm’s Labor, Employment and OSHA Group and head of its Labor and Employment section. Joseph specializes in the full range of employment matters including proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Review Commissions, United States and Massachusetts Departments of Labor, Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, state and federal courts and the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements and arbitrations.
Joseph represents employers on a regular basis in labor negotiations and before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. He has participated in many troubled company situations in the areas of labor and pension, both under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code, and outside of Chapter 11. In those reorganizations Joseph has represented a number of constituents including the debtor, creditor groups or committees and prospective purchasers. Additionally he has represented purchasers in a number of merger and acquisition transactions.
Representative clients include Bayer Corporation, The Carlyle Group, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, Thompson Steel Corporation, Kaiser Aluminum Corporation, Special Metals Corporation, WCI Steel, Inc., Ormet Corporation and DTE Energy Services, Inc.
From 1971 to 1974, Joseph served in the United States Navy, Judge Advocate Generals Corp.
Joseph is a member of the bars of Illinois, Massachusetts and New York.
