Joseph D. Simon handles regulatory, compliance, corporate and transactional matters for financial institutions, and real estate matters for all types of clients. He advises financial institutions on a wide range of issues, including truth-in-lending, RESPA, truth-in-savings, financial privacy, currency transaction and IRS reporting obligations. Mr. Simon has represented financial institutions on a number of different regulatory applications, including bank holding company filings, mortgage banking license applications and service corporation notices. He deals on a regular basis with state and federal regulatory agencies such as the New York State Banking Department, the FDIC, the Federal Reserve Board, the Office of Thrift Supervision and the National Credit Union Administration. Mr. Simon also handles community development matters for clients, and has worked with several institutions in establishing community development corporations. Mr. Simon also handles purchases, sales and leases of residential and commercial properties for individual and business clients. Mr. Simon is a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee of the New York Bankers Association. He has served as counsel to several bank associations, including the Long Island Thrift Mortgage Initiative, the Community Home Purchase Process Initiative and BANC3, an organization started by banks to increase child care opportunities in New York and Long Island. Mr. Simon is Vice President and a Board member of Harbor Child Care, a not-for-profit child care agency on Long Island. |
