Joseph A. Householder is senior vice president, controller and chief tax counsel for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 13,500 employees serve more than 29 million consumers worldwide. In his current job, Householder oversees the financial reporting and controls, financial planning and tax functions for all of Sempra Energy's companies. Before this job, Householder served as vice president of Corporate Tax and chief tax counsel for Sempra Energy since 2001, where he oversaw Sempra Energy's worldwide tax affairs. Prior to joining Sempra Energy in 2001, Householder was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the firm's national tax office. Before that, he was vice president of Corporate Development and assistant chief financial officer of Unocal until 1999. There, Householder was responsible for worldwide tax planning, financial reporting and forecasting, and risk-management compliance. Before that, Householder served as an associate attorney at the firm of Halstead, Baker & Olson from 1984 to 1986. Prior to that, he was a certified public accountant at Maginnis, Knechtel & McIntyre from 1979 to 1984. Householder has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Loyola Law School. Also, he has completed the executive program at UCLA Anderson School. He is a member of the Tax Executives Institute, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Bar and the American Bar Association. |
