Jose Tamez-Pena specializes in algorithms for musculoskeletal imaging applications and is the inventor of many core algorithms serving as the foundation for VirtualScopics' image processing technology. Dr. Tamez-Pena has generated more than ten issued and pending patents covering VirtualScopics’ image processing technology. His research at VirtualScopics spans biomedical imaging, image sequence processing, computer vision, parallel processing and application of artificial intelligence in imaging. Prior to VirtualScopics, he was both a member of the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Medical Center of the University of Rochester where he collaborated with Dr. Kevin Parker and Dr. Saara Totterman on medical image research. Earlier in his career, he was an electronic designer at ALTEL and a research assistant at the Optics Center at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. Tamez-Pena received his B.S. in physics engineering and his M.S. in control engineering degree from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Monterrey Mexico. He received his M.S. and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester where he was a Fulbright fellow. |
