José de la Torre, D.B.A., is a renowned scholar and valued Board member of numerous organizations. He possesses over thirty years professional experience having served as a consultant and in executive development, as well as over twenty five years lending his expertise to a multitude of universities in an academic capacity.
Currently, Dr. de la Torre is Dean of the Alvah H. Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University in Miami, where he is also the J.K. Batten Eminent Scholar in Strategy. Florida International University has over 37,000 students and four campuses in South Florida. Its College of Business was ranked by Business Week in the top 5 percent among 1,400 business schools in the United States, and among the top 15 percent of those accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) worldwide. Its international business programs are ranked among the top 20 in the country and first in the state of Florida by U.S. News & World Report, as is its renowned Executive MBA program, according to the London Financial Times.
Dr. de la Torre was Professor of International Business Strategy at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management from 1986 to 2002, and Founding Director of UCLA’s Center for International Business Education and Research from 1989 until 2000. Formerly, he was Professor of International Business and Chairman of the Strategy and Environment Area at INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration) in Fontainebleau, France, a member of the faculty at the Institute of International Business at Georgia State University, and a Research Associate at the Harvard Business School.
Dr. de la Torre has held short-term appointments at a number of graduate business schools in Latin America, including the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE), the Universidad del Valle, Colombia, and the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile. He served as Visiting Professor at the Institute of International Business of the Stockholm School of Economics in 1992, and at the Theseus Institute in Sophia Antipolis, France, in 1997-2001.
Dr. de la Torre is the author of over 50 books and articles and more than 30 case studies in the field of international business and strategy. He has written on the management of multinational firms, the relationship between corporate strategy and government policy, and on foreign investment in developing countries.
Dr. de la Torre has consulted with many international companies and with government agencies in Europe and Latin America, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the OECD, and the United Nations. At present he serves on the boards of MphasiS, a global software company based in Mumbai, India, a publicly listed subsidiary of EDS Corporation.
Dr. de la Torre received his doctorate from the Harvard Business School, following degrees in aerospace engineering and business administration from the Pennsylvania State University. |
