Law Practice Joni Haviva Kletter joined the firm on February 1, 2007 as an associate of the Labor and Employment Law practice in the New York City office of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. Ms. Kletter handles the representation of public sector union members in Section 75 administrative disciplinary hearings, grievance arbitrations and CSC appeals. Ms. Kletter conducts legal research in preparation for contract negotiations, NLRB litigation and employment discrimination suits. Additionally, she drafts memoranda of law, ULP charges, discovery requests, and appellate briefs. Further, as a member of the firm’s employment group, Ms. Kletter helps litigate numerous employment related claims and provides employment advice to clients regarding employment contracts and separation agreements.Professional Profile Before joining the firm, Ms. Kletter was a federal law clerk to U.S. District Judge Sandra J. Feuerstein and prior to that, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert M. Levy in the Eastern District of New York. During law school, Ms. Kletter worked as a legal intern at the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Civil Rights Bureau where she worked on housing and employment discrimination under both federal and state law. She was also a law clerk for Levy Ratner, P.C., where she wrote memoranda, facilitated arbitration hearings and collaboratively wrote briefs on a wide range of labor law issues, including fair representation, collective bargaining and unfair labor practices. Ms. Kletter was also a summer associate at the labor and employment firm, Vladeck, Waldman, Elias & Engelard, P.C., where she researched and wrote memoranda on Title VII, ERISA, and labor law and contract issues.Education Ms. Kletter graduated from Yale University in 2000 and received her J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, cum laude, in 2004. She was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society in law school. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Kletter received the Jacob Burns Medal for Scholastic Achievement and the National Association of Women Lawyers Award for Outstanding Graduate.Professional Affiliations Ms. Kletter is an active member of the New York State Bar Association, Civil Rights Committee and serves as a Judge to the New York State Bar Association’s High School Mock Trial Tournament. The New York State Bar awarded Ms. Kletter First Prize: Samuel M. Kaynard Memorial Award in Labor and Employment Law in 2004.
