Mr. Nelsen is Vice President Land for Kerogen Resources. Joining Kerogen in late 2005, he manages the real property holdings and joint venture relationships for this unconventional shale development company. Since joining Kerogen, he has added 3 land professionals to his team and together they have assembled a resource based shale acreage position of 300,000 gross and 50,000 net in 1 year. They are working seven resource projects including a drilling program on 21 prospects in the Fort Worth Basin.
In 2004 he joined Wynn-Crosby Energy as its Vice President of Land. As part of the management team he helped facilitate the merger with Petrohawk Energy, which closed in November 2004. He assisted Petrohawk in their transition after the acquisition along with providing management - land consulting services for several industry clients.
Prior to joining Wynn-Crosby, Mr. Nelsen had a 19 year career with El Paso / Coastal Oil & Gas Corp. He held the following positions, Area Landman, Regional Landman, Land Manager, Director of Business Development Land, Vice President Onshore Land and Vice President of Land Administration. He negotiated and/or assisted closing divestitures that brought in almost two billion dollars and also worked on El Paso’s debt restructuring. Prior to the El Paso Merger with Coastal, in his capacity in the Business Development group, he participated in more than a dozen acquisitions that were valued in excess of one billion dollars. Nelsen has also worked a land brokerage business with his father.
Mr. Nelsen earned a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration with an emphasis in Mineral Land Management from the University of Colorado.
Mr. Nelsen has been active in the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation; Chairing the Landman’s section of the Annual Meeting, presenting several papers and working on the Special Institutes Committee. He served on the Board of the Houston Professional Landman’s Association, where he chaired several special institutes. He is also a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen Association and CPL. |
