D. John Valley is responsible for the development, implementation and appraisal of Tembec’s long-term business strategies and plans, including the evaluation of acquisition, divestiture and joint venture opportunities. Mr. Valley is also accountable for the Company’s internal and external communications programs, as well as government relations.
Mr. Valley brings a wide range of experience in both the public and private sector to this role. Prior to joining Tembec, Mr.Valley was Managing Partner and Principal of the Biscayne Group, a firm which focused on financial transaction and strategic advisory work. He also served as the Chief Negotiator for the Province of Ontario in the softwood lumber dispute with the United States.
From 1994 to 2001, Mr. Valley served as a Managing Director with the Chase Manhattan Bank of Canada. His direct experience in industry includes a wide range of corporate and operating assignments with Boise Cascade Canada Ltd. from 1981 to 1991. In the public sector, Mr. Valley has served in a range of capacities, including a two-year period as the ranking public servant responsible for the forest products industry in Ontario. Over the years, he has also acted as an advisor to various ministers, ministries and agencies in Ontario and British Columbia.
Mr.Valley did his undergraduate work at Loyola College of Montreal and Lakehead University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also holds an MBA from the University of Windsor. He is a past member of the Management Advisory Boards of Patheon and Prescott Paper Products, and the Advisory Boards of the Faculties of Forestry at both the University of Toronto and Lakehead University, as well as a number of industry and trade associations. |
