John Schanz is Executive Vice President of National Engineering and Technical Operations for Comcast Cable. In this role Schanz oversees Comcast's engineering and network operations for the company’s industry-leading cable video high-speed Internet and voice services. He also spearheads the technology strategy for the deployment of integrated communications products and services. Under John’s leadership Comcast serves over 21.7 million customers in 36 states on one converged fiber-rich network.
Prior to joining Comcast Schanz served as Executive Vice President of Network and Data Center Operations for America Online (AOL) with responsibility for architecture planning design and operation of AOL's global network infrastructure including the AOL service Netscape CompuServe Web properties messaging systems telephony rich media and streaming services and digital services. He previously held senior management operations and engineering positions with leading technology and communications companies including Sprint GE Information Services and Transaction Network Services.
Schanz has over 20 years of technical and business leadership experience in global telecommunications services including network architecture global implementation service and systems integration OSS/BSS support systems operations product development and P&L accountability. Prior to joining AOL in November 2001 he was co-founder and President and CEO of MediaCenters a next-generation optical metro carrier.
Schanz currently serves as a Board of Trustee member of the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute (AORI.org) a non-profit research effort focused on improving joint replacement technology.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering from Manhattan College of Engineering in Riverdale NY and he completed GE's Information Systems Management Program.
Schanz lives in the Philadelphia area with his wife and three children.
