Jack Pope is a Vietnam veteran, a family man, active in his church, a college instructor, has an extensive career in accounting and business, and is interested in helping Cherryland Electric Cooperative continue to grow. During his first term at Cherryland, he helped streamline the co-op’s business structure back to what it does best: Serve members with reliable and affordable electricity. He now serves as the board’s treasurer. As a member of the Betsie Sunrise Rotary Club, one of their goals is community service. I believe that my set of skills has benefited Cherryland and I would like a chance to keep serving our members, Jack says. He owns Evergreen Business Systems where they build, repair and upgrade personal computers. He provides consulting and training on accounting software, and is also a part-time instructor at Baker College in Cadillac. He and his wife JoAnn have been married for 34 years, have two adult children, and have lived at Crystal Mountain Resort for eight years. Jack is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, is on the finance committee at St. Raphael’s parish in Copemish, serves as president of the Lodge at Cedar River Village Association at Shanty Creek Resort, and is treasurer of the Mountain Woods Homeowners Association at Crystal Mountain Resort. He has a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and an MBA from Wayne State. After college, Jack spent 19 months in the Army, including a tour of Vietnam. His business career started as a tax supervisor for Deloitte & Touche, before joining Kmart for 18 years as an accountant. In 1993, he started his own consulting business, which he sold in 1998 to PPG-Schultz International where he worked for one year before starting his current business. |
