John Olson joined the Cherryland board in 2001 and currently serves as president. He is a Traverse City native, graduating in 1961 from Traverse City Senior High School. He is a realtor, co-owner of Elmbrook Golf Course, an accredited mediator for Community Reconciliation Services and does Circuit Court mediation. I believe my experiences in business, working with people, and my local roots give me the background that’s needed to best represent Cherryland members, said Olson. I enjoy working with the board and staff at Cherryland, he said. We have faced several challenges over the last few years and through everyone’s hard work and perseverance, we have emerged as a stronger company that is respected throughout the industry. We have more key issues ahead, and we must continue to do what is best for our membership. In 1966, he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ferris State University, and then moved to Birmingham, Mich., to start his real estate career. John and his wife Carolyn raised their family in Birmingham before moving back to Traverse City in 1983. They have lived in the Deepwater Point area of Acme Township since 1984. They have been Cherryland Electric members for 20 years. John has continued his career with Real Estate One, and has served on and chaired many professional and volunteer committees during his career. He is a member of the Traverse City Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Traverse City Area Association of Realtors, and First Congregational Church. He and Carolyn have a daughter, Shelly, a son, Kenny, and four grandchildren. |
