John Nelson, PhD, joined ON Semiconductor in May 2007. With more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, Dr. Nelson is focused on lean management of the company’s global manufacturing, technology and supply chain operations. Prior to joining ON Semiconductor, Dr. Nelson was CEO OF 1st Silicon, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations including, worldwide manufacturing, sales, marketing and product development. From 1990 to 2002, Dr. Nelson served in several executive positions with, General Instrument/General Semiconductor, including Chief Operations Officer and president of the company’s Asia-Pacific operation. Prior to leading General Semiconductor Taiwan's divestiture from General Instrument, he was president of General Instrument Taiwan, and also served as vice-president and general manager of the company’s power semiconductor division. During that time, he directed construction of General Instruments’ manufacturing site in Tianjin, China, driving completion in less than two years. Dr. Nelson’s industry experience also includes positions as wafer fabrication operations manager at Unitrode and Fairchild Semiconductor, as well as various wafer fabrication engineering posts at Analog Devices.
Dr. Nelson earned both a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and a PhD in physics from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. |
