John has the vision for crafting complex development partnerships, the financial expertise to substantiate their potential for success, and the leadership abilities to guide a multidisciplinary team to fulfill them. He oversees all development and leasing activities for Cousins' Office Division, including responsibility for Cousins' third-party development, leasing and management services. Prior to his current role, John led the Cousins' medical office team in developing five projects totaling 945,000 square feet: Presbyterian Medical Plaza at University in Charlotte, Atlanta's Crawford Long Hospital campus redevelopment, Northside/Alpharetta II, Meridian Mark Plaza and AtheroGenics. On each project, partnering with Cousins saved the medical institution several million dollars - as much as $30 million for Northside/Alpharetta II - and insulated each from the risks involved in leasing and managing medical office property.
John has more than 15 years of experience in commercial real estate and finance. Before coming to Cousins in 1996, he founded Hutchinson Capital Group, an investment management firm. He also served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Quest Capital, where he oversaw the acquisition, management, financing and divestiture of a portfolio of 10 operating companies with combined revenues of $1.6 billion. Previously, as Assistant Vice President for Wachovia Bank's Real Estate Finance Division, he was responsible for a portfolio of secured office and industrial loans and led five low-floater refinancings.
