As Boeing chief information officer (CIO) and vice president of the Information Technology (IT) organization, John Hinshaw is responsible for all IT strategy, operations, processes and people of the world's leading aerospace company. He was named to this position in June 2007 and reports to John Tracy, Senior Vice President of Boeing Engineering, Operations & Technology.
John was previously Chief Information Officer of Verizon Wireless, where he held a number of key positions focused on enabling business growth, reducing costs, and creating business efficiencies. He was also responsible for leading the information technology organization supporting over 60 million customers. His responsibilities included managing the company's IT portfolio, including global supply chain, billing, sales, and customer care systems and was also responsible for successfully completing a significant consolidation of the company's core systems.
Prior to Verizon Wireless, John worked as a consultant for Accenture, providing information technology consulting for several Fortune 100 companies and government agencies. He also worked for the Department of Commerce in the American Embassy in London and the Department of Defense Naval Engineering Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
In 2007 John's Verizon Wireless organization was ranked in the top 15 of Computerworld's Best Places to work in IT. In 2004 John accepted the CIO magazine "CIO 100" award for Agility in Information Technology. In 1991, John received the United States Department of Commerce Recognition Award for Exemplary Contributions in Information Technology.
John serves on the CIO Advisory Board of NCR Teradata. John also served on the Board of Directors of Men Stopping Violence, a non-profit organization for preventing domestic violence from 2005 to 2006; on the Advisory Board for the Masters in Information Systems Program of Stevens Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2004; and as Chairman of Peoplesoft's Communications Industry Advisory Board from 2000 to 2002.
John holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and he and his wife, Julia, and their daughters Elizabeth and Anna reside in Chicago, Illinois. |
