John Hicks is Gencom's Senior Vice President of Development and Construction for the firm's Western US Region. Currently John is overseeing the firm's Rancho Mirage and Kapalua projects. Both of these projects involve the complete renovation of the existing hotel facility along with the development of new residential product. Gencom is both developer and investor in these projects. Rancho Mirage is a $450MM plus project that involving four phases and a 5 - 7 year build out. Phase I, which includes the renovation of the former Lodge at Rancho Mirage resort and construction of 18 exclusive residences next to a brand new 20,000 SF world class spa, will open in the fall of 2008. Phases II, III and IV will involve the development of additional hotel units and for sale villa products. Kapalua is also a $400MM plus project and that will involve at least 2 phases, if not 3 phases. Phase I includes the renovation of the former Ritz Carlton Kapalua resort and the conversion of 132 units into condominium suites for sale. Phase I is slated to open in late 2007 with the renovation of the existing spa targeted for reopening in April 2008. Phases II and III will involve the development of additional high rise condominium structures on adjoining parcels of land that Gencom controls. Previously, John Hicks had a successful career at McKibbon Hotel Group where, as Vice President of Development, he was responsible for the company's lodging development activities throughout southeastern United States. During his tenure there, he was responsible for the development of 15 plus hotels over a 7 year time period. His development experience includes developing hotels, office buildings and large scale master planned developments throughout the eastern US seaboard as well as the Caribbean. He also has extensive experience in the areas of land planning and entitlements. In addition to his time at McKibbon Hotel Group, he has also held senior development management positions with Hines Interests, Novare Group Holdings and Noble Investment Group. John received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and his Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. |
