Mr. Dobitz brings extensive experience in CO2 enhanced recovery techniques to his position as head of CO2 operations at Rancher Energy. He is an expert in the technical and business aspects of EOR, with a major emphasis on miscible and immiscible CO2 ?ooding. Prior to joining the Rancher Energy, Mr. Dobitz was Director of Reservoir Engineering for the Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, where he led the engineering assessment of CO2 ?oodable acquisitions at Kinder Morgan and built a technical team to handle the design, implementation and maintenance of new properties. Mr. Dobitz will lead Rancher Energy’s CO2 projects, and will be relocating from Houston to the Company’s headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
While at the Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, Mr. Dobitz’ experience includes using CO2 techniques to increase SACROC ?eld production from 8,500 BOPD and 2,000 BNGLPD in year 2000, to the current 31,000 BOPD and 15,500 BNGLPD. This included building the business plan that resulted in the $500 MM investment in this field, performing the reservoir simulations and dimensionless curve analysis, building the scale up tool, and justifying building the Centerline Pipeline to increase the delivered CO2 to SACROC. Areas of specialty include the business of sourcing and transporting CO2 to the oil ? eld, with extensive experience in the thermodynamics of handling and compressing CO2 with the goal of minimizing energy usage. He has 16 years of reservoir simulation experience, and is adept at identifying the goals of simulation and tailoring the simulation process (pattern, full ?eld, and cross section) to achieve them; and has 17 years of experience in classical reservoir engineering in support of reservoir simulation efforts. He also has 24 years’ experience in formation evaluation, speci?cally in the development, performing, specifying, analysis, and use of routine and special core analysis.
Past positions include serving as Principle reservoir engineer at Kinder Morgan CO2 Company (2000-05); as reservoir engineer on Texaco’s offshore Nigeria Agbami field commercialization team (1999-2000); miscible EOR support and research for Texaco Exploration and Production Technology Department (EPTD) (1991-99); Project Engineer, Enhanced Oil Recovery, Texaco Midland Division (1990-91); core analysis support for the Aramco section and PVT research, Texaco EPTD (1985-90); routine and special core analysis, PVT, slim tube experiments, Getty Oil Research (1980-85); and Plant Engineer, Cabot Corporation, Carbon Black Division, Pampa, Texas (1978-80). An experienced lecturer, Mr. Dobitz has received numerous accolades for instructional presentations at the annual CO2 Conference in Midland and recent SPE presentations. He holds a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston (1986) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska (1976). |
