Mr. Correnti’s steel experience began in 1969 with United States Steel where he served in construction management activities until 1980. He joined Nucor Corporation in 1980 as the manager of construction. Early on in his career at Nucor, Mr. Correnti developed methods to fast track the construction of new steel facilities and to shorten schedules by as much as 50%. In 1984, he became a vice president of Nucor. In 1987, he negotiated a joint venture with Yamato and constructed a highly successful beam mini mill in Blytheville, Arkansas. In 1991, Mr. Correnti was appointed president and chief operating officer of Nucor. He became chief executive officer of Nucor in 1996. In 2000, Mr. Correnti led and won a proxy fight to take over Birmingham Steel, which he successfully restructured and sold to Nucor in 2003. Also in 2003, Mr. Correnti worked with Carl Icahn in the successful restructuring and restoration to profitability of Phillip Services, the third largest scrap supplier in the United States. |
