John Borneman, call sign Hatch has been with Afterburner since 1999. He was the original Director of Leadership for Afterburner and now serves as the Director of Strategic Planning and Leadership. Hatch has worked with numerous leadership teams at Fortune 500 companies in the areas of strategy, team development and leadership.
Hatch is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering. Coupled with the training he received in leadership at the Naval Academy, Hatch has worked with companies in implementing Flawless Execution principles throughout their organizations by overcoming cultural obstacles and gaining the buy in of everyone involved.
As a US Marine Fighter Pilot, Hatch flew the state of the art, F-18 Hornet for over 16 years, accumulating 2500 hours of flight time throughout the many regions of the world. Having flown 40 combat missions during Desert Storm and another 60 missions over the troubled skies of Bosnia, Hatch fully understands what it takes to be successful in dynamic, ever-changing, hostile environments and applies this experience to achieving outstanding results in the difficult business world of today.
During his career, Hatch was one of an elite group that was selected to attend the Navy’s Fighter Weapons School (TopGun) as well as the Marine Corps intense Weapons and Tactics Instructors Course. This training coupled with his combat experience, made him the duty expert within his squadrons and air groups in tactics, training and mission planning. Hatch also attended the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare, a ten month graduate level course in the operational art of war. He was an Honor Graduate and the top aviator in his class of 196 of the Marine Corps best and brightest. Hatch leverages his experience as an instructor pilot and knowledge of operational execution to help companies apply the principles of execution and supporting leadership principles to their challenging business environments.
Hatch also spent two years as a Process Consultant with Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC) where he worked day in and day out with leadership teams that were constantly focusing on strategic execution and talent development. This experience gave him valuable insights into the challenges businesses are facing everyday and the practices they use to be successful.
