John R. Berry is founder and Chairman of The Family Business Boardroom, Inc., which assists family firms in developing effective boards.
Most recently, Berry was a Senior Partner of Heidrick & Struggles, an international Board Director and Executive Search Consulting firm. His search industry peers chose him as one of the top 250 Search Consultants in the United States.
Berry was recruited to Holland America Line as the non-family President and CEO of this family-owned business. He turned the firm around financially and ensured its continuity.
Prior to Berry’s 12 years in the Executive Search field, he spent 10 years as an Entrepreneur. With partners, he started up three businesses.
Berry is a former member of Loyola University Chicago’s Council of Regents, a former Board Director on its Family Business Center and a former Board Member of Loyola University’s Center for Ethics and Social Justice.
Berry is a member of the Chicago Chapter of the World President Organization and President of the Board of Trustees of The Kenilworth Union Church, Kenilworth, Illinois. He was President of the Board of Trustees of Colorado Academy, a Trustee of American Field Service (AFS), a member of the Young Presidents Organization and his Chapter’s Chairman, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Chief Executives Organization.
