John T. (Tom) Foy graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, in May 1970 with a B.B.A. in Marketing and Retailing. Upon graduation, Tom began his furniture career in Dayton, Ohio, with Rikes Department Store, a division of Federated Department Stores, where his buying and merchandising responsibilities included both upholstery and case goods. In 1975, Tom was promoted to Divisional Merchandise Manager after five years with the company.
Tom joined Simmons USA in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1978 as Vice President and General Manager for hide-a-beds and upholstered products. In addition to these responsibilities, he assumed the presidency of Selig Manufacturing, a contemporary upholstered furniture manufacturer, in 1982.
In October 1985, Tom joined Action Industries, now Lane Furniture Industries, in Tupelo, Mississippi, as Vice President of Sales. He held this position until 1989, when he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales. In July 1995, he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, followed by an October 1996 promotion to President and Chief Executive Officer of Lane Furniture Industries. In February of 2004, Tom was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer Furniture Brands International.
The Foy family are members of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo, where Tom serves on the church’s Administrative Board. He has been involved with such volunteer and philanthropic organizations as Boy Scouts of America, Gardner-Simmons Home for Girls and Tupelo Youth Soccer. Other community interests include a Board seat with the Peoples Bank & Trust Company, the North Mississippi Medical Center, and the chairmanship of the Tupelo Community Development Foundation. Professionally, Tom serves on the Board of Directors of both the American Furniture Manufacturers Association and the International Home Furnishings Market Center.
Tom lives in Tupelo, MS with his wife Frances Ann, with whom he has two sons.
