Former Chief Executive Officer of American Ref-Fuel Company
John Miller served as Chief Executive Officer, American Ref-Fuel Company, headquartered in Montvale, New Jersey until June 2005 when the company was acquired. American Ref-Fuel is the largest waste-to-energy company in the northeastern United States, converting more than five million tons of municipal solid waste annually into enough electricity to meet the needs of 350,000 homes and businesses.
Under Mr. Miller’s leadership, American Ref-Fuel consistently improved plant performance while reducing total operating costs resulting in an almost five percent average annual growth rate. The company sold at a price that produced a two-year return to investors of approximately two-and-a-half times their original investment.
Prior to American Ref-Fuel, Mr. Miller held various executive finance positions with a number of energy companies involved in petroleum exploration and production, international trading, and refined product retailing.
Mr. Miller was elected to Mirant's Board of Directors in 2006.
