Dr. John Wittpenn is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with more than 13 years of experience as a refractive surgeon, cataract surgeon and corneal specialist. Dr. Wittpenn graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College with a Bachelor's degree in Biophysics and received his Medical degree from The John Hopkins School of Medicine. After completing his Ophthalmology Residency at The Wilmer Institute at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Wittpenn served as a Cornea Clinical and Research Fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then served as the Director of Ophthalmology Residency Training at the University of Southern California Los Angeles County Medical Center.
In 1988, Dr. Wittpenn joined the faculty at the State University of New York at Stony Brook as Director of Cornea, Cataract and Anterior Segment Surgery. He currently remains a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Wittpenn is a member of several professional societies including the American Medical Association,, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association of Researchers in Vision and Ophthalmology, Long Island Ophthalmological Society, Suffolk County Ophthalmological Society and the New York State Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Wittpenn has done clinical research and holds three patents for ophthalmic products licensed worldwide. He lectures extensively around the nation as well as internationally on current ophthalmic technology in England, Morocco, India, Nepal and Indonesia. Dr. Wittpenn is a partner in Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island. Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island, OCLI, consists of 22 doctors representing each subspecialty of ophthalmology in 6 locations throughout Long Island; in Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Valley Stream, Stony Brook, Manhasset and East Meadow. |
