John serves as co-chair of the firm's Labor and Employment group. He offers numerous years of experience in representing management in labor and employment law, including arbitration and litigation. His day to day practice involves counseling clients regarding compliance with federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws such as Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. John also assists clients in complying with wage and hour laws, the Family & Medical Leave Act, and other federal and state statutes pertaining to the employment relationship. John advises management in union-organizing situations and has negotiated, administered and arbitrated collective bargaining agreements. He successfully has tried cases in both state and federal courts, including representing employers in appellate proceedings. John also has extensive administrative experience appearing before the National Labor Relations Board, the Wage & Hour Division, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Skilled in drafting employment agreements, non compete covenants and a wide array of personnel policies, John has assisted clients in developing and updating employee handbooks and personnel manuals specifically tailored to the workplace -- invaluable tools for daily personnel management. John is a frequent speaker before human resources professionals and routinely conducts training sessions for clients concerning various legal considerations for the workplace. He is also an active member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Bar Associations. John joined Calfee in 1986, becoming a partner in 1996. |
