John Caulfield's career in the management of public works projects spans more than 20 years. He has worked for a variety of organizations, including engineering consultants, heavy civil contractors, and public utilities. Mr. Caulfield has undertaken jobs involving tunnels, pipelines, shafts, seismic retrofits, rehabilitations, deep excavation support systems, slope stabilization, and highways.
His past major assignments include serving as Project Manager during design and construction of the Claremont Tunnel Seismic Upgrade, owned by the East Bay Municipal Utility District. Mr. Caulfield also served as Project Engineer during construction of the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand’s Second Manapouri Tailrace Tunnel.
Mr. Caulfield joined Jacobs Associates in 1999. In his new role as Principal and Chief Operating Officer, he brings a strong background of team leadership and project management that has earned him an excellent reputation throughout the underground construction industry. At present, he works from our San Francisco headquarters as Project Manager of the Public Utilities Commission's Bay Tunnel, a major component of their $4 billion upgrade of the Hetch Hetchy Water System.
Mr. Caulfield earned his MS in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Construction Engineering and Management, from Stanford University. He has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Caulfield holds professional licenses in civil and geotechnical engineering from the State of California.
