John Gilmore, Ph.D., is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Silicon Valley office. John is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, concentrating on patent procurement, intellectual property transactions and patent disputes.
Before practicing law, John conducted scientific research in the United States and Europe with an emphasis on applied physics and physical chemistry. While at Stanford University, for example, he designed and performed laser-based spectroscopic measurements investigating fundamental molecular energy transfer processes. Having broad technical training and experience, his law practice now relates to technologies spanning physical, chemical, electrical, computer software and mechanical arts.
John is admitted to practice in California, Minnesota, the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a member of the bars of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
