John N. Hanson is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Joy Global Inc., a leading provider of mining equipment and services. He was named to Arrow Electronics' Board of Directors in 1997.
Hanson began his career as a theoretical low energy nuclear physicist and applied mathematician. He ran a series of industrial product and capital goods businesses for several Fortune 500 companies. He was selected as a White House Fellow in 1970 and served as Executive Assistant to the Secretary of Labor in Washington, D.C.
Hanson joined Joy Technologies, Inc. in 1990 as President of the Mining Machinery Division. He later held the position of President and Chief Operating Officer and served on the Board of Joy Technologies, Inc. Joy Technologies was acquired by Harnischfeger Industries in 1995 and he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Harnischfeger in June 1996 as an Executive Vice President of the company. Hanson became CEO in 1999. He was elected Chairman in 2000 and was re-elected Chairman by the company's new Board of Directors shortly after the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in 2001, at which time the company's name was changed to Joy Global Inc.
Hanson received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He obtained his doctorate degree in nuclear science and engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. |
