John is a founding partner of the Firm, and has litigated commercial and environmental law cases in the Federal and State Courts for more than thirty years. He has considerable appellate experience, ranging from early landmark State cases (Webster Associates v. Town of Webster, 85 A.D.2d 882 (4th Dept.), reversed on other grounds, 50 N.Y.2d 220 (1983)) to a more recent victory in a leading and often nationally cited Federal Telecommunications Act matter (Sprint Spectrum v. Willoth, 176 F.3d 630 (2nd Cir. 1999)).
John's litigation practice is as varied as it is longstanding. He has been counsel to a regional hospital during its closing and dissolution proceedings, recently secured nearly $2 million in settlement of his client's employment dispute with a national brokerage firm, obtained favorable dispositions of several civil rights and tort cases asserted against a County for which he and the Firm serve as liability defense counsel, and recently litigated in the State Appellate Division and Federal District Court cutting edge issues of Constitutional law and statutory interpretation arising under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000.
John has often lectured at State and local bar seminars on litigation practice, environmental and land use controversy work, and for several years served as an adjunct professor of environmental law at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
John has been active in both the Monroe County and New York State Bar Associations. Locally, he enjoyed multiple terms as an officer and trustee of the County Bar Association, served as Chair of the Fee Arbitration Committee, and has worked on several of the Bar Association's standing committees. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar's Real Property Law Section and co-chair of the Section's Environmental Committee, and is a member of the Litigation and Environmental Law sections.
