Throughout his career John has been involved in the financial, business and regulatory challenges of the healthcare industry. His expertise covers governance issues and board development, management interface between CEOs and Boards, turnaround assessments and implementing turnaround plans for healthcare providers. John also has experience in performance improvement, conversion to non-profit organizations, strategic planning for multi-hospital systems, consolidations, mergers and collaborations and issues as they relate to Catholic healthcare.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron, John was a Principal at Wellspring Partners, now a Huron Consulting Group practice. Previously John was the National Director of the Healthcare Industry Program and Regional Director-Healthcare for the Pacific Region of Arthur Andersen LLP. He was also Arthur Andersen's National Director for Catholic Healthcare and a member of Arthur Andersen's national steering committee for healthcare and had been in charge of developing its national healthcare training program. John was with Arthur Andersen for 40 years in the healthcare industry working with multi-hospital systems, Catholic healthcare organizations, integrated delivery systems and related organizations.
Representative examples of John's engagements experience include:
Served as the Engagement Partner for a multi-specialty clinic of 120 physicians. This project included reengineering the revenue cycle, implementation of a labor productivity management system, interim management, board development and a complete financial and operational turnaround. Results included turning around four years of substantial operating losses to a $1.5M profit.
Served as Engagement Partner for a district hospital in the Pacific Northwest. This project included improving the revenue cycle, labor productivity, supply chain/non-labor cost reduction, interim management, board development, reorganization of the employed physician group, initiation of a physician recruitment program, reorganization of the diagnostic imaging services and arranging contracts with a major imaging group. Results included turning around a loss of $2M in 2002 to a gain of $500,000 in 2003, for an improvement of $2.5M.
