John E. Donahue is a shareholder in Godfrey & Kahn's Employee Benefits Practice Group. His practice includes tax, employment and corporate law with a primary emphasis on employee benefits. He advises businesses and their owners regarding the design, installation, maintenance and termination of retirement plans, including 401(k) programs and employee stock ownership plans, as well as other benefit programs. He assists clients in responding to regulatory inquiries and disputed benefit claims. John has also counseled institutional trustees and other fiduciaries on ERISA matters, and he has served as an expert witness for numerous cases in federal and state courts. John graduated from Marquette University, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He received his legal training at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Wisconsin Super Lawyers. He is past Chairman of the Employee Benefits Section of the Milwaukee Bar Association and a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Retirement Plan Professionals, Ltd., the ESOP Association and the Greater Milwaukee Employee Benefits Council. John currently serves as Vice President of the Boy Scouts' Milwaukee County Council. He previously served as Chairman of the Boards of Mount Mary College and as President of Children's Hospital Foundation, the Metropolitan Milwaukee Civic Alliance, and the Kiwanis Club of Milwaukee.
