John E. (Ed) Boyington, Jr. is President of Madison, Mississippi-based L-3 Vertex Aerospace. Mr. Boyington is responsible for all facets of the company's business and operations. L-3 Vertex is a division of L-3 Communications Corp and part of L-3's Integrated Systems group.
L-3 Vertex has more than 11,000 employees providing aviation and other technical services in support of 3,500 government and military aircraft in 32 countries. L-3 Vertex also serves as managing partner of a joint venture operating as Army Fleet Support LLC (AFS) at Fort Rucker, Alabama. AFS' 3,200 employees provide Contractor Logistics Support for more than 500 Army training helicopters, and it is the largest aircraft maintenance contract ever awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Previously, Mr. Boyington served as Vice President of Federal Programs for L-3 Integrated Systems (L-3 IS) and concurrently as President of L-3 Communications Flight International Aviation LLC and Site Executive at the Waco, Texas facility for L-3 IS.
Mr. Boyington joined L-3 Communications in September 2003 after retiring from U.S. Navy service at the rank of Rear Admiral. His last assignment was Chief of Naval Air Training and Commander of Navy Region South. In this capacity, he led an organization composed of more than 1,150 aircraft, six major bases, and 17,000 government and contract personnel.
Highlights of his military career include: Commanded ten operational commands, over 8,000 hours in 85 types of aircraft and over 600 combat missions.
His formal education includes a bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida, a master of science in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School, and a master of science in National Resource Management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He is a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College, Naval Test Pilot School and Center for Creative Leadership. He is a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and designated Acquisition Professional. He has been recognized as a distinguished graduate by Pensacola Junior College and the University of West Florida. He is a Trustee with the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
He and his wife, Sue, reside in Madison County, Mississippi, and have two children. |
