Quite literally, John was brought up above South Central Communications by his father, John A. Engelbrecht, and mother, Bettie G. Engelbrecht, since they lived above WIKY in Evansville, IN. In a small family company, John had many roles and became the single largest shareholder of SCC in the early 1970's. He then became Chairman/President/CEO in 1974 after the passing of his father. John now focusses on strategic aspects and acquisitions since he has turned day to day management of SCC over to his son, JP. John is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. He is a Director for Vectren Corporation (NYSE: VVC), Deaconess Hospital, and Science Committee Chair for the Evansville Museum of Arts & Sciences.
