John D. Cassiday, one of the founding partners of Cassiday Schade LLP and past member of the firm's Executive Committee, has dedicated his career to the defense of civil litigation. He has tried in excess of 100 civil jury trials to verdict. He has had extensive trial experience in complex cases including medical malpractice, products liability, construction injuries, property damage, motor vehicle, and general liability. Mr. Cassiday has handled all aspects of the trial from discovery through appeal. He won a judgment notwithstanding the verdict of $10 million and obtained an outright reversal of a large verdict by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He also argued the case before the Supreme Court of Illinois that eliminated voluntary dismissal as a way of avoiding a due diligence objection to late service of summons. Mr. Cassiday has represented many other defendants in cases that have been dismissed or resolved prior to trial and has a wealth of experience in pre-trial litigation, including analyzing the liability and damages issues and developing a defense strategy. He has tried cases involving a variety of medical and hospital specialties, services, and products, a variety of other products, and a variety of other issues including insurance coverage, civil rights, and false arrest. Because of his broad base of experience, Mr. Cassiday has also been retained in high profile litigation and complex multi-document, multi-party litigation. He was selected as counsel for one of the subrogee insurers of many claimants in the Chicago Flood litigation. Mr. Cassiday authored, The Prescription Drug Exception to the Doctrine of Strict Liability in the Illinois Bar Journal in 1969.
