Mr. Kemp is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lease Corporation of America (LCA) and is Chairman of the Board of LCA’s wholly owned subsidiary, LCA Bank Corporation, a Utah Industrial Bank. Under Mr. Kemp’s leadership, LCA has underwritten over $525 million of micro ticket transactions involving more than 57,000 leases. As a practicing attorney, Mr. Kemp founded the law firm of Kemp, Klein, Umphrey & Endelman, one of the twenty largest law firms in Michigan. His legal career has been devoted to representing a variety of financial institutions and other successful businesses. He has had extensive experience as a drafter of a wide variety of loan documents and as a litigator. Early in his career, Mr. Kemp created one of the first software licenses ever used. He was subsequently involved as chief litigation counsel in enforcing the rights of the licensor against a computer manufacturer. As an officer and director of several privately held insurance companies, Mr. Kemp has had significant lending and investment responsibilities. He has served as general counsel for a number of credit life and specialty or niche property and casualty companies. He has also been involved in the development of innovative insurance products and the acquisition, merger and sale of these insurance companies. In addition, Mr. Kemp has been a leader in the use of insurance companies as tax deferral devices and has created other tax deferral arrangements for selfinsured vendors of product warranties. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1960, his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1963, was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1963 and the Michigan Bar in 1968. He has been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for Northern Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U.S. District Court for Eastern Michigan and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit |
