John's practice runs the gamut of matrimonial law. He handles prenuptial agreements, marital agreements, separation agreements, divorce agreements, and all aspects of domestic relations disputes, including custody, support, paternity, and equitable distribution issues. He is regularly involved in matters requiring the valuation of assets, such as businesses, licenses, degrees, and professional practices. He has also been appointed by sitting judges to mediate settlements of litigated cases and as a special referee to supervise discovery in difficult cases. As a litigator, he has extensive experience in all trial and appellate courts in the New York metropolitan area.
John was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1963. He received his B.A. degree from Columbia College and his J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law. John is a Fellow, and has served on the Board of Governors, of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a national society with strict standards of admission. John has also served on its Board of Examiners, which screens applicants for admission, as well as on various committees. John is a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, whose membership is limited to 100 attorneys nationwide. John contributed to the book Inside the Minds: Leading Divorce Lawyers, which was published in 2005.
John is listed in The Best Lawyers In America, Who's Who in American Law, and enjoys an AV rating in Martindale-Hubble. John also was named a "Super Lawyer" in the 2006 edition of New York Super Lawyers/ Manhattan Edition, among 5% of Manhattan attorneys. According to the magazine, this selection was based on an independent survey of 59,000 Manhattan lawyers and an evaluation by a "blue ribbon panel of preeminent peers" in each area of practice.
John is of counsel to the firm.
