John A. Oborn is senior vice president/chief information officer (CIO) for Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). He is responsible for all of the corporation’s current technology needs and future planning to maintain HCSC’s leadership role among health and life benefits organizations.
Previously, Mr. Oborn was managing vice president of consulting for Gartner Inc., a leading provider of research and analysis on the global IT industry. His primary areas of expertise include IT strategy, operations, risk management and performance measurement.
Mr. Oborn has provided research, analysis and best practices in strategic direction development for more than 100 CIOs. He also led the data center of the nation's largest government-owned utility through a three-year improvement program -- increasing effectiveness by 60 percent while reducing operational costs by 50 percent.
Mr. Oborn also held a number of IT-related technical and management positions for the U.S. Air Force, as well as leadership IT positions for the Tennessee Valley Authority and US Sprint Communications.
Mr. Oborn earned a master's degree in technology management from the Florida Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rollins College.
