John is a trial lawyer with extensive experience in complex criminal and civil litigation. He has particular experience handling cases involving high levels of media attention and advising clients on communications during crisis situations.John has handled a diverse array of cases involving high degrees of risk to his clients. On the criminal side, he has represented clients accused of mail, wire, bank and securities fraud, conspiracy, embezzlement, immigration violations, and money laundering, as well as individual offenses such as homicide, assault, drug crimes, and sexual offenses. On the civil side, he has represented clients in matters involving high-tech commercial disputes, trade secrets, intellectual property, antitrust, healthcare and securities fraud, employment, product liability, personal injury, and environmental issues. He has conducted internal investigations and negotiated favorable resolutions prior to the filing of indictments or regulatory violations.John has specific experience in the emerging field of sports-law litigation. He has represented numerous Olympic-level athletes in anti-doping, disciplinary, and grievance disputes with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and the respective national governing bodies. Before joining Lindquist & Vennum, John worked for the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Denver, where he was responsible for defending clients accused of the full range of substantive federal offenses, including sophisticated white-collar crimes. Prior to that, he worked at the Denver law firm of Isaacson, Rosenbaum, Woods & Levy and the national law firm of Morrison & Foerster. Following law school, John clerked for the Hon. Lewis T. Babcock, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.John was appointed by the judges of the U.S. District Court for Colorado to serve from 2001 to 2003 on the Criminal Justice Act Standing Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the administration of criminal defense in federal court and advising the court on matters related to criminal law and procedure. He was later appointed to serve as the District of Colorado’s representative to the National Criminal Justice Act Conference.John serves as a trial-advocacy instructor at the University of Colorado School of Law, and has taught numerous continuing-legal-education classes on topics related to trade-secret protection, employment law, criminal law, criminal motions practice, and trial practice. His community work includes coaching lacrosse and serving as a Boy Scouts cubmaster; he was named named Cubmaster of the Year in 2002 by the Boy Scouts' Denver-Area Council. |
