Joel Lanz is the founder and principal of Joel Lanz, CPA, P.C., a niche CPA practice that delivers IT audit, information security and technology risk consulting services. Joel’s reputation as a trusted business and technology advisor has been developed over a twenty-five year career that includes Big 5 partnership and financial institution industry experience. Prior to starting his practice in 2001, Joel was a Technology Risk Consulting Partner at Arthur Andersen and was an Information Systems Audit Specialist Manager at Price Waterhouse. His industry experience includes Vice President at The Chase Manhattan Bank and senior auditor positions at two insurance companies. His engagement experience includes numerous strategic and operational assessments for all aspects of corporate IT audit, governance, security and risk management, including business continuity. He has been involved in fraud investigations, acquisitions due diligence, system implementations and operational cost and effectiveness studies. Although focused on financial institutions, Joel has also served clients in the healthcare, education, manufacturing and retail industries. Joel currently serves as the Chairman of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountant’s Technology Assurance Committee and is a member of the Society’s Accounting and Auditing Oversight Committee. Joel is a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute of Internal Auditor’s Long Island Chapter. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Information Technology Executive Committee. Joel has been selected as Accounting Technology magazine's Accounting Technologist for April 2006. Joel’s articles have been published in many peer-reviewed auditing, and industry pub0lications. He serves on the Editorial Board of Bank Accounting and Finance and is an ad-hoc reviewer for The CPA Journal. He also co-authored two prominent books regarding the security over electronic payment processing that were both sponsored and published by NACHA. He has presented numerous programs to regulators, financial and information technology professionals around the country. He currently teaches graduate courses in fraud examination, accounting information systems, advanced assurance services and computer auditing at Long Island University. Previously, Joel taught graduate courses at New York University and Pace University in systems planning, design and implementation, business continuity planning and IT Audit. Joel received his BBA (Public Accounting) and MBA (Information Systems) degrees from Pace University. In addition to his CPA, Joel has been awarded the Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) specialty designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also maintains the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certifications. Joel is certified by the National Security Agency in their INFOSEC Assessment (IAM) and Evaluation (IEM) methodologies. He also maintains the required certification to perform Payment Network Security Compliance for PIN and Key Management (TG-3) Reviews. Joel is qualified as a Payment Card Industry Data Security Professional (QDSP). Joel is married and is a father of three sons and a cat who thinks he’s a dog. An a0vid baseball fan, Joel and some of his fellow baseball fan clients participate in a Fantasy Baseball League, where together they compete for the JLCPAPC league championship. Joel is the General Manager of the Risk Managers franchise, whose home games are played at COSO Park. |
